GRR: College Men
What a weekend of results.
We have spoken the last two years about parity in D1A, highlighted in part by the fact that the last three seasons have produced three different champions. This year the parity is on full display. No one team has a perfect record. No one team has a tight grasp on #1. Any team could emerge as a majo player in the playoffs.
Well ... that was interesting.
Here's what happened in D1A today.
No, I Don't Think SoCal Poly (GRR #11) put to rest any discussion of whether they would be overtaken for 2nd in the California Conference, as the Mustangs beat the upstart #21 UCSB Gauchos 73-13 to secure that 2nd spot.
UCLA defeated Saint Mary’s 22-12 Saturday in Los Angeles, shutting out the Gaels in the second half to preserve a huge victory for the Bruins.
Both teams were coming off close games in which they felt they gave up far too many points—Saint Mary’s had won 43-38 over Cal Poly, while UCLA had dropped a 47-41 decision to Central Washington.
Florida State and St. Thomas tightened their grip atop their respective divisions in the Florida D1AA Collegiate Conference after both won in fairly convincing fashion this weekend.
FSU defeated Florida 40-22, with the Gators scoring at the death to make it a little closer.
We find out a lot in this week's D1AA action.
